IPv4 stands for Internet Protocol version 4. It's the fourth version of the Internet Protocol, which is the set of rules governing how data is transmitted over the Internet. IPv4 addresses are numerical labels assigned to devices (such as computers, servers, routers) connected to a network that uses the IPv4 protocol for communication. An IPv4 address is composed of four sets of numbers separated by periods, with each set ranging from 0 to 255. For example, "192.0.2.1" is an IPv4 address. IPv4 addresses are the most widely used type of IP address on the Internet. However, due to the growth of the Internet and the limited number of available IPv4 addresses, there has been a transition to IPv6, which provides a much larger address space.
